TIRAMISÙ WORLD CUP IS BACK LIVE (AND THIS YEAR THE DESSERT COMES FIRST)

Scritto da il 07/08/2021

The Tiramisù World Cup, “the sweetest challenge of the year” is back to let its participants compete live. However, the event arrives a few weeks earlier than the traditional appointment: the 200 participants (divided into the two categories “creative recipe” and “original recipe”) will compete on the weekend of 8, 9 and 10 October. The venue will be the orangerie in Piazza dei Signori in Treviso (Venice).

The wait to see the world’s most famous Italian dessert enthusiasts live again is finally over: the 2021 edition of the Tiramisù World Cup (now in its fifth year) will be held next autumn (8, 9, 10 October) in the lively city centre of Treviso, inside the traditional orangerie set up in Piazza dei Signori.

Many competitors, who had already registered last year, will join the 2021 edition. This year the theme is “Treviso and the Cinema” and can count on the collaboration of the Treviso Film Commission, in the context of Veneto, the tourists’ most loved Italian region. The maximum number of participants is 200 (due to anti-Covid restrictions, ed.), ready to prepare their recipes according to the category they chose: the original one (eggs, sugar, mascarpone, coffee, ladyfingers and cocoa) or the creative one. Among the participants who are already practicing, “chefs” from abroad (BelgiumFranceSpainSwitzerland) and obviously from Italy (Veneto, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Liguria, Umbria, Friuli, Lazio, Piedmont).

«It was important to come back “live” and I can’t wait to taste the Tiramisù of those who will arrive in Treviso from every corner of Italy and abroad,” explains Francesco Redi of Twissen, organiser of the event. We will manage the event with the utmost respect for the anti-Covid rules in force, both for the public and the competitors. The participants themselves are asking for reassurance about the prevention measures we will be taking, but they have also told us of the great desire they have to meet again, respecting the social distancing, in order to live (and some of them, re-live) the excitement of the competition».

The Tiramisù World Cup 2021 edition will be enriched by the “Cucchiaio di Cristallo” (Crystal Spoon) award, born from the collaboration between the TWC, FIPE (Federazione Italiana Pubblici Esercizi) and Confcommercio Treviso. Over the next few months, a “mystery shopper” will select four venues (including restaurants, pastry shops, bars, etc.) in the city, tasting the version of Tiramisù proposed by each of them. During the three days of the TWC, people will then be able to buy the Tiramisù in the “selected” places, taste and vote for them; the “popular” vote will be added to that of a technical jury and that of the press, deciding the 2021 winner of the “Crystal Spoon” award.

«The Veneto Region, acknowledging the importance of tiramisù also from a tourism point of view, has supported this event since its debut, and it has now become a traditional appointment on the calendar of regional events – said Federico Caner, Councilor for Tourism for the Veneto Region – At least one in four travellers choose their destination based on typical local products, and tiramisù, the world’s most famous spoon dessert, is perhaps the most obvious example of this. Films have made it famous even overseas, this dessert has always linked its name to the world of cinema and to that of the city of Treviso which, with its views and its artistic, natural and cultural heritage, represents an open-air film set».

The TWC is also supported by the Trevisani nel Mondo: «The association, after last year collaboration, continues to support this important event. On the occasion of the Tiramisu Day 2021 (21 March, ed.), our local and foreign sections all over the world from Australia to Russia, Norway, England, Switzerland, Brazil and Argentina, to name a few, celebrated their favourite dessert with a loud “Viva il tiramisù”. Trevigiani nel Mondo will continue to be the ambassadors of the Tiramisù World Cup, heritage of our Treviso city».
